Terms of use
Fondreel turns your family’s own photos into a short narrated film for a birthday party. These terms say what you agree to when you add photos, what you can do with the finished film and its music, and what we promise in return.

The short version
- Only add photos you have the right to use. You confirm this when you add photos and again before we make the film.
- The film is yours to play at the party and share with family. The music comes with it, but you can’t register it with any distributor, Content ID or fingerprinting service.
- The first film is free, with a small Fondreel mark in the corner. More films are $19 a month.
- Photos are deleted 30 days after your last change, and you can delete everything at any time.
Who can use Fondreel
You need to be 18 or older to make a film. Your account is for you: keep your password to yourself, because you’re responsible for what happens in your account.
Your photos and your rights
When you add a photo, you confirm that you took it, own it, or have permission from whoever does to use it in a family film, and that using it doesn’t break anyone else’s rights. A portrait from a photo studio, for example, may still belong to the studio.
By adding photos you confirm you have the right to use them for a family film.

I’m 18+ and have permission to use these photos
Ticked before “Make my film”. We don’t make the film without it.
You keep every right you have in your photos. You let us store, copy and edit them only to make your film and show it to you and the people you share it with. That permission ends when the photos are deleted.
We never use your photos or your answers to train AI.
What we do to your photos
We crop, pan, rotate, zoom in up to twice the size and adjust the color of your photos. We never generate, redraw or swap a face: every face in the film is from your own photos.
We check each photo when it arrives. If we can’t use one, we leave it out of the film and tell you beside the photo.
The story and the narration
We draft the narration only from facts you confirm, and a checker marks any line it can’t match to your answers. You approve every line before it is narrated, so the words in the film are yours to stand behind.
The narrator is an AI voice, not a recording of a real person. Don’t present it as someone’s real voice.
Music in your film
You pick one of three tracks for your film. Some are made for Fondreel, which we call house music. Others come from music libraries under their own licenses. The full credit for every track is on the Credits page.
You can play the film with its music at the party, keep it, and share it with family and friends, including posting it online.
You may not register house music, or a film that contains it, with any distributor, Content ID or other fingerprinting service, and you may not use the music outside your film.
Tracks from other libraries follow their own licenses, linked from the Credits page. When you post the film online, paste the music credit from your film page into the description.
Price and the free film
Your first film is free and needs no credit card. You get a preview on the page and the full film by email as a 720p MP4, with a small Fondreel mark in the corner.
Making more films is $19 a month. We show you the price and ask you to agree before we charge anything.
There are daily limits on how many films we can make. If we’re at capacity, we tell you, your work stays saved, and you can try again later.
Keeping and deleting
- Your photos are deleted 30 days after your last change.
- Your answers, the script and the narration are deleted 90 days after your last change.
- Films and share links are deleted 90 days after the film is made, so download the MP4 to keep it.
“Delete this project” removes one film’s photos, audio, films and answers at once. “Delete everything now” on Your films removes every project and your account. The privacy policy lists everything we keep and for how long.
Emails we send
We email you to confirm your address and to send your film. If you leave a film unfinished, we may send one reminder before the party. Every reminder has an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
Fair use of the service
Don’t add photos that are illegal, sexual, or meant to embarrass or harass anyone. Don’t try to open anyone else’s project, overload the service, or copy it. We may remove content or close an account that breaks these terms.
What we can’t promise
We work to have every film ready in time for the party, but Fondreel is provided as it is, without a guarantee that it will always be available or free of mistakes. Watch your film well before the party date so there is time to change something.
As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before a claim.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, we update the date at the top of this page and tell you by email before the change applies to you. Our postal address is in the privacy policy.
